At home jewelry cleaning solution

Jewelry has been an exciting part of dressing up since the beginning of time and now the choices are unlimited and available to almost anyone who is interested – from diamonds, gold, silver to precious stones, there is always something perfect for that special occasion.

But as you wear this jewelry every now and then, they tend to lose their allure and become dull – you don’t need to worry, this article is here with all the do it yourself home remedies to keep your precious jewelry shiny and intact. Now let’s look at the most effective and easy great home remedy for cleaning your jewelry.

Baking soda

Baking soda is the perfect home remedy for almost anything and everything and a great cleaning agent for your jewelry, especially for gold and gemstones!

You will need:

2 tbsp baking soda

¼ cup white vinegar

¼ ts salt

Warm water

Soft toothbrush

Directions:

Pour the vinegar into a bowl and place the jewelry inside it (more like soaking it), sprinkle baking soda and salt over it (this will help to prevent tarnishing of the jewelry) and allow it to sit for fifteen minutes while agitating every 5 minutes. After the soaking time use a soft toothbrush and gently scrub the jewelry to remove dirt and residues stuck on it then rinse in clean water and dry it off.

Alternatively, you can make a thick paste using the vinegar and baking soda and with a soft toothbrush rub it over the jewelry and continue brushing it lightly for five minutes. After which you rinse the jewelry with clean water and pat it dry.

Toothpaste

Not everyone knows that their ordinary toothpaste is actually a great and effective jewelry cleaner especially when you need your jewelry sparkling on the go! But remember, it is preferably used to clean silver jewelry as toothpaste is a bit abrasive although it won’t scratch the jewelry (its better safe than sorry).

You will need:

Toothpaste

Soft toothbrush

Warm water

Directions:

Mix a small amount of toothpaste in a tablespoon of water to make a paste and using a toothbrush gently rub it on the jewelry to scrub it. After scrubbing, rinse it well and pat dry.Alternatively, you can just squeeze a small amount of toothpaste onto a soft cotton pad and thoroughly wipe the surface of the jewelry. Rinse it and give it one last rubbing using a towel and your jewelry is back to new!

Lemon juice

Lemon juice is another effective way to clean out all the dirt and grime on your jewelry and quite suited for almost all jewelry types.

You will need:

Lemon juice

Water

Toothbrush

Towel

Directions:

In a ½ cup of water add 1 tablespoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice and soak your jewelry in the solution usually 10 mins to an hour (not recommended for jewelry with gemstones especially pearls). But if you happen to be in a hurry, you can just use a toothbrush and the solution to scrub the jewelry for a few minutes and then rinse with clean water.

Your jewelry is precious and taking the best care of them is paramount for long lasting use as well as shine. You can clean your jewelry with almost any method but you have to be extra careful when cleaning precious jewelry like gold and diamond as well as other precious stones.
